During this 4-day workshop we will focus on the development of children’s mathematical thinking in grades 3-5. We will explore how children develop deeper understandings of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and place value concepts. We will also discuss how to teach fraction concepts in ways that honor students’ intuitive strategies. Participants will learn how to use this knowledge to make instructional decisions and develop classroom practices that enable students to explain their thinking and engage with each other’s ideas. Participants will work on how to engage students productively in problem solving and will develop expertise around a number of instructional activities.
All participants will receive a copy of Children’s Mathematics: Cognitively Guided Instruction, 2nd Edition.
Facilitator: Seth Cutler
