August 2, 3 & September 18, 2021
9:00 am – 12:00 pm online
During this workshop, we will focus on the development of children’s mathematical thinking in the early education classroom (3-5 years old). We will explore how children’s understandings of counting, problem solving, and spatial reasoning develop. Participants will understand the power of using this knowledge to notice what children say and do and to make instructional decisions that build on and extend children’s thinking. Participants will experience a variety of practices that provide opportunities to develop important ideas and a positive mathematical identity.
Participants will receive a hard copy of Young Children’s Mathematics: Cognitively Guided Instruction in Early Childhood Education by Thomas Carpenter, Megan Loef Franke, Nicholas C. Johnson, Angela C. Turrou, Anita A. Wager.
