During this 4-day workshop we will deepen our focus on the principled ideas underlying the development of children’s mathematical thinking in grades K-5. We will explore the relationship between problem types and strategies, and consider how this understanding impacts our planning and instruction. Emphasis will be placed upon counting, addition, subtraction, and grouping problems. We will also explore algebraic reasoning and the development of students’ fraction understandings. In addition to our study of the CGI framework, we will provide opportunities to make connections to the California Mathematics Frameworks and how we might intentionally provide spaces for students to engage with each other’s ideas and keep student thinking at the heart of our instruction.
Cost: $450
