This course is recommended for all TK-2 grade educators, administrators, and specialists who have already attended a 4-day CGI Workshop.
July 16-19, 2018
Levy Adult School, Torrance
During this 4-day workshop we will deepen our focus on the principled ideas underlying the development of children’s mathematical thinking in grades TK-2. We will explore the relationship between problem types and student strategies, and consider how this understanding impacts our planning and instruction. Emphasis will be placed upon counting, addition and subtraction problem types, algebraic reasoning, and the development of students’ understandings of fair share problems. In addition to our study of the CGI framework, we will also provide opportunities to make connections to the California Mathematics Framework and how we might intentionally provide spaces for students to engage in each other’s ideas and keep student thinking at the heart of our instruction.
