The report Breaking New Ground with California’s State Seal of Civic Engagement: Lessons from Year 1 highlights the efforts of early adopters across California and provides themes and recommendations for educators interested in rolling out the SSCE in their own districts and schools. You can read a full version of the report, a condensed version of the report, or a report brief via the links below. We have also provided links to individual profiles that are excerpted from the full report. For example, the student profile focuses on the experiences of 10 students who advocated for and/or earned the SSCE. You will also find profiles describing the promising approaches and challenges faced by seven local education agencies in this first year of the SSCE. Finally, we summarize the efforts made by educators at the county and regional levels.
It is important to note that these profiles do not offer a one-size-fits-all menu or checklist of steps to take to implement the SSCE. Instead, they provide snapshots of how a diverse set of early adopters in California adopted the SSCE, what they learned along the way, and some considerations for other communities to reflect upon.
