Come spend a week with the UCLA Writing Project to learn, refine, and share strategies that will help your students discover their strengths as effective and inspired writers across the genres and throughout the curriculum. Connect with a dynamic group of colleagues, work in grade-alike groups and also across the grade levels. Discover a diverse and creative range of texts and activities to ensure a year of challenging and satisfying writing for you and your students.
Through a hands-on and collaborative approach, teachers will:
- experience and share mentor texts and practical strategies for encouraging, supporting, and improving student writing in all genres
- experience and share strategies that help students become confident and effective listeners, speakers, readers, and writers
- make relevant connections to the Common Core State Standards
- leave the workshop with writing and reading strategies and resources for all grade levels and subject areas for immediate use back in the classroom.
Day One: Personal Narrative, Journal Writing
Day Two: Non-Fiction, Informative, Comparison Writing
Day Three: Critique, Opinion, Essay Writing
Day Four: Fiction, Narrative Writing
Day Five: Poetry Smorgasbord and Putting It All Together
