Program Description

The AP Readiness Program uses an academy model; mentor Advanced Placement instructors work with pre-advanced placement and advanced placement teachers toteach them how to help their students with the skills necessary to be successful in college level classes while they are instructing their students. AP teachers learn from each other while observing and supporting the master teachers.

The AP Readiness Program is designed to provide training and support for teachers in Advanced Placement instruction while preparing students for AP courses. Working with master instructors and teachers, students will build a strong conceptual foundation that will allow them to excel in Advanced Placement courses.

These special sessions on specific AP courses are held on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 1 PM.

The AP Readiness Program is not designed to take the place of quality Advanced Placement instruction in the school, but to supplement and enhance what is already being taught.

The goal of the AP Readiness Program is to increase the opportunities for all students to have access to a rigorous curriculum. The AP Readiness Program includes not only AP teachers and their students but also potential AP teachers and their students.

FEATURES OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR PROGRAMS

  • Prepares both teachers and students for the rigor and demands of AP courses
  • Supports new AP teachers when they are developing their AP Course Audit Form and syllabus for review by the College Board
  • Provides opportunities for teachers to collaborate and share materials
  • Provide AP labs and demonstrations conducted by master AP teachers that show what preparation and background is necessary and excite the interest and curiosity of both students and teachers
  • Demonstrates different types of effective teaching styles
  • Allows opportunities for both teachers and students to form a network of learners that share a common experience and bond of learning in the AP Readiness Program
