Examination Requirements
FALL 2008

GRE: General Test
The GRE is NOT REQUIRED for admission to the Teacher Education Program.

TOEFL
Required of all international applicants whose first language is not English.

CBEST
The California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) is required of all applicants except those residing out-of-state or out-of country from 9/1/07-12/15/07.* It must be taken by in-state applicants prior to applying to the Teacher Education Program. A copy of the CBEST score report must be included in the application packet.

Subject Matter Requirement

Multiple Subject / Elementary Applicants:

CSET: Required of all applicants except those residing out-of-state or out-of country from 9/1/07-1/21/08.*

Acceptable CSET test dates to meet January 7, 2008 application deadline:

September 15, 2007
November 3, 2007

January 12, 2008

Please Note: The January 12, 2008 CSET test date is only acceptable if you include official verification of CSET registration with your complete application by the January 7, 2008 deadline.

MSAT – Multiple Subject/Elementary applicants may use passing MSAT scores in place of the CSET ONLY IF the MSAT was taken and passed on or before June 30, 2003.

Subject Matter Preparation (“waiver”) programs are NOT acceptable for Multiple Subject / Elementary applicants.

Single Subject / Secondary Applicants:

Praxis AND SSAT – Single Subject/Secondary applicants may use passing Praxis and SSAT scores in place of the CSET ONLY IF both exams were taken and passed on or before June 30, 2003.

Subject Matter Preparation (“waiver”) programs may be used in lieu of the CSET. If you have completed at least 80% of a state-approved subject matter preparation program, you must submit an official “waiver” letter along with this application. 100% completion is required before you can begin the Teacher Education Program.

* Out-of-state, out-of-country applicant information
You are required to take the CBEST and the CSET no later than the second available administration following enrollment in the Teacher Education Program IF you are admitted. However, you are encouraged to take the CBEST and the CSET when they are offered at non-California test sites. See the CBEST and CSET websites for further information.
