History-Geography Project
The UCLA History-Geography Project is committed to building a network of teacher-scholars devoted to enhancing history-social science education in the Los Angeles region. As one of the sites of the California History-Social Science Project (CH-SSP), our community includes individuals from different school districts, institutional settings, disciplines, and grade levels. By using the complimentary fields of history and geography, we bring together educators, who often work in separate worlds and professional cultures, to build bridges between groups. This is particularly important in a city as diverse as Los Angeles.
The History-Geography Project’s professional development activities are based on the California History-Social Science Standards. The Project’s programs include a Scholar-Teachers series, an EL/Literacy institute, specialized history institutes, and geography training, as well as many other offerings. We believe strongly that a quality social science education is an integral part of a well-rounded curriculum for a successful student.
